New Fellowships And Ways You Can Help!

NEW FELLOWSHIPS AND WAYS YOU CAN HELP!

We are excited to share with you some of Public Rights Project’s plans for 2019! We will be kicking off the second year of our PRP Fellowship with an application that opens in March. We are currently in the process of finalizing host office locations and refining our application process. We also launched a new fellowship program -- called the Affirmative Leaders Fellowship -- focused helping state and local government offices increase their current attorneys’ capacity to protect their communities through affirmative litigation. Through the fellowship, we will provide one year of professional development and mentoring to a cohort of government attorneys nationwide whose offices seek to build out or strengthen this important function.

As you can imagine, we’re looking ahead to a busy year, and we’d love your support in making these plans a reality. The support of volunteers like you - totaling over 3,500 hours of volunteer time last year - was essential to our successful launch of the first year of the PRP Fellowship!

Below are some upcoming activities in which we’d love for you to engage. Please use this form to let us know if you are available for one or more of them.

  • Affirmative Leaders Fellowship Resume Review: We will be reviewing applications for the Affirmative Leaders Fellowship from March 13-20. There will be a short training and review guidelines provided. You would be committing to reviewing and scoring at least five applications (a 1 to 3-hour commitment).

  • Affirmative Leaders Fellowship Video Interviews: We will be interviewing candidates by video March 25-29. There will be a short training and interview script provided. Your commitment would be to the training, interview(s), and debrief. You do not need to volunteer for the entire week -- we can work around your schedule.

  • PRP Fellowship Resume Review: We will be reviewing applications for the PRP Fellowship from May 20-24. There will be a short training and review guidelines provided. You would be committing to reviewing and scoring at least five applications (a 5-hour commitment).

  • PRP Fellowship In-Person Interviews: We will be interviewing final-round candidates in person July 8-12. There will be a short training and interview script provided. Your commitment would be to the training, interview(s), and debrief. You do not need to volunteer for the entire week -- we can work around your schedule. Locations for these interviews have not been set yet.

  • PRP Fellowship Reference Checking: We will also be checking references for PRP Fellows from July 8-12. There will be a short training and guidelines provided. You would be committing to check references for the 3 to 5 finalist fellows for one host office.

  • Webinar or in-person training for either fellowship program: We are constantly looking to provide useful programming to our PRP fellows, and we’re in the process of finalizing the curriculum for the Affirmative Leaders Fellows. One format we’re eager to use more frequently is a webinar during which an expert talks to our fellows about a topic of interest -- for example, current issues in student lending enforcement or challenges to city actions related to preemption. If you or anyone in your network would like to talk about delivering a short talk to our fellows, we’d love to discuss it with you. We’re confident they would benefit from your expertise.

Excited to help out? Sign up today! We will continue to update you on our work and ways to get involved throughout the course of the year. In the meantime, please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks again for your support!
